Description
Petroleum Coke manufactured by delayed coking of residues obtained from crude oil distillation units of Oil Refineries is called Green or Raw Petroleum Coke. The said Green or Raw Petroleum Coke calcined at a temperature 12000 centigrade to 13000 centigrade is known as Calcined Petroleum Coke. Calcined Petroleum Coke is extensively used for melting purpose of Alumina in Aluminium industry, as a carbon raiser while making Special High Carbon Steel in Foundries, as a conductive backfill in ground Electrode station and in manufacture of various Carbon and Graphite Products.ed.
Application
Application as Feed stock / Fuel use:
• Lime Kilns
• Gasification units
• Industrial Boilers.
Application as carbon source:
• Electrodes for electrometallurgical industries
• Synthetic Graphite, Aluminium Anodes, TiO2 pigments
• Carbon Raiser, Silicon Carbide, Foundries, Coke Ovens
Benefits
• Petcoke is a direct replacement of coal as a fuel but has higher calorific value (>7800Kcal/Kg as compared to 3500-4500 Kcal/Kg for coal).
• Petcoke is hydrophobic as compared to coal which is hydrophilic, thereby having edge during rainy season.
• Being solid fuel, Petcoke has low volatile matter thus no evaporation losses. Helps saving in transportation cost due to higher density compared to liquid fuels.
• Low ash content.
